Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly today announced the appointment of Joda Thongnopnua as Chief of Staff for the Mayor’s Office, effective this week. Thongnopnua served as a core advisor during Mayor Kelly’s campaign for elected office and has been serving as the City’s Chief Policy Officer since the current mayoral term began in April 2021.

Kelly also announced the appointment of Chris Sands, educator and prominent leader in Chattanooga’s local faith community, as the City’s Director of Community Engagement. Sands will start with the City on Dec. 17.

Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly announces the next phase of reopening for the City’s Community Centers, effective as of today. Most Community Centers are reopening—with the last remaining exceptions being East Lake due to remodeling; as well as Cromwell and Frances B. Wyatt, both of which are closed due to staffing shortages.

Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly on Tuesday ordered a phased reopening of the City’s community centers starting on Nov. 18, as part of a plan that in initial stages will include the Avondale, Brainerd, Carver, Hixson, John A. Patten, Shepherd, South Chattanooga, and Westside community centers.

Mayor Tim Kelly’s administration today announced Ryan Ewalt will join the City of Chattanooga as Chief Operating Officer; and Erskine Oglesby will serve as Deputy Administrator for Community Development under current Administrator Anthony Sammons. Both Ewalt and Oglesby will assume their appointed roles in late November.

Mayor Tim Kelly today announced the timeline to select Chattanooga’s next police chief, and started gathering community input as part of a process that will include a series of community meetings to drive accountability and transparency.

The Mayor’s Office will host meetings with residents across the city to help identify the qualities needed in our next chief, and to take residents’ top public safety priorities into account. The mayor will leverage feedback from these meetings to drive the final selection of Chattanooga’s next police chief in February.
