CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 1, 2026) – The City of Chattanooga today announced a series of community events celebrating America 250. The slate of celebrations is rooted in music, fireworks, patriotism, technology, and family fun, and is designed to bring the whole community together around Chattanooga’s iconic riverfront locations.

JOINT TRAINING EVENT TO TAKE PLACE AT FINLEY STADIUM

CHATTANOOGA, TN – The Chattanooga Fire Department, in partnership with the Tennessee National Guard and other local, state and federal agencies, will host a full-scale drill at Finley Stadium on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The training exercise will get underway at 8 AM so citizens can expect to see emergency vehicles and personnel in the area for several hours. It will simulate an incident involving hazardous materials in a stadium setting where thousands of people would gather.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with the homicide of a 16-year-old and the non-fatal shooting of an 18-year-old that occurred on March 22, 2026 on South Germantown Road.

CPD's Homicide Unit charged 21-year-old Victor Powell Jr. (DOB 04/15/2005) with Criminal Homicide, Attempted Murder, Tampering with Evidence, and Felony Reckless Endangerment. Powell is in custody at the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.

300 Block of Broad Street Southbound

Due to required security measures while hosting the Spanish National Football (Soccer) Team southbound Broad Street between 3rd Street and 4th Street will be closed Monday, June 1st through Monday, June 29th. Detours via Chestnut Street, Market Street and Aquarium Way.

Temporary closure of the bridge over Chattanooga Creek will require extended detours
 
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 28, 2026) The City of Chattanooga Department of Public Works is announcing the temporary closure of the Wilson Road bridge over Chattanooga Creek due to structural deficiencies in the 64-year-old bridge, as identified by a recent state inspection.
A lightning strike is believed to be the cause of an apartment fire in Hixson Sunday night. Red Shift companies were dispatched to the Marina Pointe Apartments (5750 Lake Resort Drive) at 7:22 PM on 5/24/26 after 911 received reports of smoke coming from the roof of one buildings in the complex. Residents and police officers worked to evacuate the building as CFD personnel began firefighting operations.
