At 10:57 p.m. the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a reported water rescue. Upon arrival Squad 1 assumed command of the incident with Captain Robert Thompson as the incident commander. They were advised that the incident was not a water rescue but that someone had fallen off a cliff by the Hunter Museum.
The victim was found approximately 20 feet down a steep cliff which was approximately 80 feet above the river. He had jumped a fence that is located under the observation deck of the Hunter Museum.
The victim was rescued utilizing technical rope rescue techniques.
The victim was not injured other than a few scratches from the bushes he had fallen in.
Units responding and assisting at the incident were the four fire/rescue units as well as a Battalion Chief from the Chattanooga Fire Department, Chattanooga Police Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Medical Service.
