Man Arrested For Fire On Museum Street

Ir a:

Lt. Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division said Bobby Shropshire (65) started a fire in his upstairs apartment and then left. Chattanooga firefighters got the fire out quickly, containing most of the fire damage to the upstairs unit. No one was injured.

When finally located for questioning yesterday afternoon, Mr. Shropshire explained to Lt. McElvain that he did start the fire, but it was an accident. He could not explain why he left the scene. Mr. Shropshire was charged with one count of aggravated arson, and transported to the county jail for booking. Lt. McElvain said the charge was elevated to aggravated arson because the fire endangered the lives of the residents living in the apartment on the first floor. Captain Anthony Moore and Lt. Andrew Waters assisted with the investigation.
