The City of Chattanooga is proud to host the Outdoor Recreation Mapathon—an all-day, community-driven event to build the most complete outdoor map in America.
📍 Philip Grymes Outdoor Chattanooga Center
📅 Friday, September 26
🕘 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM

Chattanooga is known as one of the best outdoor cities in the country, with endless trails, parks, waterways, and green spaces. But this information is often scattered, making it hard for residents and visitors to find. The Mapathon will change that by bringing together mappers, outdoor lovers, and local experts to create one free, easy-to-use outdoor map for everyone.

This event is about more than just marking trails—it’s about making Chattanooga’s outdoor resources accessible, connecting our community, and showcasing the natural beauty that makes our city special.

Who can join?
Everyone! No mapping experience is needed. Stop by any time during the day to share your knowledge, learn new skills, or simply connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.

What’s happening at the Mapathon:

  • Mapping & Apping Sessions – Help chart trails, parks, water access points, and more.

  • Learn to Map Station – Beginners can learn the basics of OpenStreetMap and contribute right away.

  • Community Collaboration – Work alongside local organizations and outdoor leaders.

  • Support National Park City Efforts – Be part of Chattanooga’s vision to become a National Park City.

The map created will be available online and in apps, making it easier than ever to explore Chattanooga’s outdoors.
