Join Outdoor Chattanooga this winter for a guided, fully equipped kayak tour through the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge—one of the Southeast’s best birdwatching spots.
Just an hour north of Chattanooga, this scenic confluence of the Tennessee and Hiwassee Rivers hosts thousands of migrating Sandhill Cranes each year, plus occasional pelicans and other waterfowl.

Your early-morning paddle circles the quiet edges of Hiwassee Island, a 400-acre protected sanctuary of fields, wetlands, and forest—prime habitat during peak migration (Nov–Jan).

All gear and instruction are included. Recreational kayaks accommodate most paddlers (weight limit 250). Prior experience is helpful but not required. Expect about 2 hours on the water. Ages 16+ with a participating adult.
