Several pets were saved from a duplex fire overnight. At 1:07 AM on 1/29/25, Blue Shift companies were dispatched to the 1900 block of Rawlings Street on reports of a residential structure fire. The occupants weren’t home at the time, but their neighbors on the other side of the duplex called 911 when they smelled smoke and heard popping noises. Firefighters responded and forced entry, quickly extinguishing fire in a back bedroom. Crews did an outstanding job keeping the fire contained to the room of origin. They removed several cats and Guinea pigs. The fire displaced three adults and a minor who will be receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.
