Workforce Development

Workforce Development is a division of the Economic Development department in the City of Chattanooga. The City of Chattanooga seeks to fund and facilitate a systemic response to workforce development for our local labor market that connects local labor supply and labor demand giving all Chattanoogans access to our thriving local economy.

The City of Chattanooga defines workforce development as the process of equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet current and predicted local labor market demands:

  • Prioritizing effective and efficient trainings or upskillings with the highest job placement rate
  • Based in local labor market data and demand
  • That creates a thriving economy for all Chattanoogans

In order to develop workforce the following activities and roles are needed and guide the City of Chattanooga's funding priorities:

  • Skills Trainers
  • Job Placement specialists
  • Support Services (wrap-around supports)
  • Professional Development (soft skill development)
  • Career Exploration and Exposure
  • Work readiness
