The Chattanooga Fire Department’s Fire & Life Safety Educator, Senior Firefighter Allen Green, has written a new children's book! Allen visits schools, businesses and community meetings every day to educate the public on fire safety and prevention. His impactful lessons spark important conversations in households throughout Chattanooga and help instill lifelong safety practices in young people. His role in the fire department inspired him to write "Mom! Dad! What Should I Do?" to teach children about the best practices in the event of a fire: having a fire escape plan, practicing their escape plan with their family members, having a safe meeting place outside, "get low and go" to avoid toxic smoke, "get out and stay out" to remember to never go back inside, having working smoke detectors and checking them regularly, etc. He wanted his book to supplement his educational presentations, which often take place in neighbors and at schools where there are high levels of fires. With characters that represent the children throughout the Chattanooga community and illustrations that engage listeners, his book will have a lasting impact on everyone who reads it, ultimately saving lives and helping to prevent fires from happening by leading to safe practices by readers. The book will be available on Amazon on January 20th. Senior Firefighter Green will have a book signing at the Chattanooga Public Library Eastgate location (5705 Marlin Road) on January 18th from 2 PM-4:30 PM. There will be a special reading of the book with opportunities for photos with Sparky the Fire Safety Dog and Chattanooga firefighters. All ages are welcome.
All of the proceeds from the book go to Senior Firefighter Green’s nonprofit called PPCH, Inc. (Pain, Perseverance, Character, Hope). For years, his work in the community has provided mentorship to hundreds of young people, giving them inspiration and courage to fulfill their dreams and break down barriers to their success. PPCH’s mission is to provide service and duty to at-risk youth who are in need of uplifting, education and motivation by empowering them with hope in spite of traumatic experiences and detrimental encounters.
