Cooling Shelters & Public Relief

  • Activation: Triggered when the Heat index is forecasted to hit 100°F+ for two or more days.
  • Where to Go: * Community Centers: Act as "Hydration Stations" during business hours. – https://chattfoundation.org/
    Public Libraries: All branches offer air-conditioned seating and water.
    Pet Safety: It is illegal to leave a pet in a parked car when it is 70°F+ outside. At 80°F, outdoor pets must have access to continuous shade.

Energy Resilience (EPB Partnership)

  • The 72° Start: Start your thermostat at 72°F and move it up 1° per day until you find your "comfort ceiling." Each degree higher can save 3% on your bill.
  • The 7-10° Rule: When leaving for work, adjust your thermostat up 7-10 degrees to trim up to 10% off cooling costs.
