CHATTANOOGA, TN (July 16th, 2026) — The City Wide Services team has wrapped up the installation of two large awnings at the Chatt Foundation Homeless Center, ensuring citizens have immediate protection from the elements.

The need for shade became a priority after the sidewalk immediately in front of the building was recently repaved. While the upgrade was necessary, it required temporarily removing the trees that previously shaded the
walkway. Knowing how vital that shelter is, the Public Works Department quickly stepped in to erect the two awnings. These structures will keep everyone out of the sun and rain until new, full-grown trees can be replanted in the space.
"We knew we needed to act fast so the community at the Chatt Foundation wouldn't be left exposed to the weather," said Jerramy Wood, Administrator. "A huge thank you goes out to our crew for their quick response and hard work in getting this done right away."
The awnings will stay in place and add additional coverage as the new mature trees are safely planted and ready to provide natural shade once again.
