TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE - E 3RD STREET SCHOOL ZONE EXTENDED

Jump to:

The City of Chattanooga Department of Public Works announced today that the
school zone along E 3rd Street for Chattanooga School for the Arts and
Sciences (CSAS) will be officially extended eastward to Palmetto Street.
Installation of new signage began today (December 5th) with the extended
zone going into effect on Monday, December 8th.

Next week, pavement markings will be installed, contingent on suitable
weather. The flashing lights will be relocated to the new position once the
electrical connection is active.

Key Benefits of the Extended School Zone

Improved Student and Pedestrian Safety: Lower speeds and extended
boundaries reduce the likelihood of collisions and increase driver
awareness during school hours.

Visibility Improved: Extension of the school zone now includes the area
of E 3rd Street where a former railroad overpass restricts sight distances.

Better Traffic Management: A longer zone encourages gradual slowing and
smoother traffic flow, reducing sudden braking or confusion near the school.

The Department of Public Works urges all drivers to stay alert and adhere
to the posted speed limits within the extended school zone, especially
during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal periods.
