About

The Hixson Pike project is an opportunity to rethink how the road serves everyone—from daily commuters to the people who live and work in the immediate neighborhood.

We’ve developed three distinct options, each balancing traffic flow and community safety differently. Review the plans below and let us know which approach best meets the needs of our community.

Riverview Park Area

Hardscape

Cost: $3,029,000.00

Quickbuild

Cost: $1,809,000

Three Options

Option A:

What's Included:

  • Sidewalk and additional pedestrian safety enhancement around Riverview Park.
  • Normal Park Carline Lane.
  • Riverview Village Intersection Safety Enhancements.
  • Southbound Merge Shift before Dartmouth.
  • Formalized parking.

What's Not Included:

  • Ability to add pedestrian crossing of Hixson Pike at Englewood and East Dallas.
  • Protected pedestrian area, which could become a sidewalk eventually.
  • Center Turn lane North of Dartmouth to East Dallas.

Focus:

  • Reduce the number of lanes along Hixson Pike in both directions through the Riverview Town Center to accommodate additional parking and a buffer between vehicle lanes and sidewalks.

The Layout:

  • Provides gored area for Normal Park stacking.
  • In the southbound direction, Option 1 reduces the number of lanes from two to one north of  Dartmouth St., which then continues onto the one southbound lane on Barton Ave.
  • In the northbound direction, Option 1 keeps one lane until Dorchester St., where it opens up into two lanes.
  • Option 1 includes parking and additional shoulder width on the west side of Hixson Pike through the town center, protecting the Tremont sidewalk.

Option B:

What's Included:

  • Sidewalk and additional pedestrian safety enhancement around Riverview Park.
  • Normal Park Carline Lane.
  • Southbound Merge Shift before Dartmouth.
  • Formalized parking.

What's Not Included:

  • Riverview Village Intersection Safety Enhancements.
  • Ability to add pedestrian crossing of Hixson Pike at Englewood and East Dallas.
  • Protected pedestrian area, which could become a sidewalk eventually.
  • Center Turn lane North of Dartmouth to East Dallas.

Focus:

  • Reduce the number of lanes along Hixson Pike in the southbound direction through the Riverview Town Center to accommodate additional parking and a buffer between the southbound vehicle lane and sidewalk.

The Layout:

  • In the southbound direction, Option B reduces the number of lanes from two to one near Dartmouth St., which then continues onto the one southbound lane on Barton Ave.
  • In the northbound direction, Option B opens up to two lanes starting at Hanover St.
  • Option B includes parking and additional shoulder width on the west side of Hixson Pike through the town center.

Option C:

What's Included:

  • Sidewalk and additional pedestrian safety enhancement around Riverview Park.
  • Normal Park Carline Lane.
  • Riverview Village Intersection Safety Enhancements.
  • Southbound Merge Shift before Dartmouth.
  • Formalized parking.
  • Ability to add pedestrian crossing of Hixson Pike at Englewood and East Dallas.
  • Protected pedestrian area, which could become a sidewalk eventually.
  • Center Turn lane North of Dartmouth to East Dallas.

What's Not Included:

  • Includes all safety enhancements within Option A and Option B

Focus:

  • Extended southbound lane reduction to provide space for a sidewalk extension along Hixson Pike from E Dallas Rd to Westwood Ave.

The Layout:

  • In the southbound direction, Option C reduces the number of lanes from two to one near E Dallas Rd, to provide space for a sidewalk extension on the east side of the road.
  • In the northbound direction, there will not be any major changes.

Your Input Matters!

Please take 2 minutes to complete our survey. Your feedback will help the City decide which direction to take for the future of Hixson Pike.

Project Timeline

We are currently in the Community Input Phase. Once feedback is collected and a design is selected, the project will move into the study and final design stages. At that point, we will finalize the project timeline and update this page with a confirmed construction start date and estimated duration. We are committed to minimizing disruptions and will provide regular updates on traffic detours and milestones as the project progresses.
