Location
The Tennessee Riverwalk, also known as the Tennessee Riverpark, is a paved urban scenic pathway that runs for approximately 16 miles along the southern bank of the Tennessee River. It serves as a vital connection for pedestrians, runners, and cyclists, linking downtown Chattanooga and its riverfront attractions (like Ross's Landing, Coolidge Park, and the Tennessee Aquarium) to the Chickamauga Dam to the northeast and the historic St. Elmo neighborhood to the south. The path is a mix of paved sections, boardwalks, and bridges, offering continuous waterfront views and access to various parks and cultural landmarks.
Temporary Closure Near New Stadium
A portion of the Tennessee Riverwalk is currently subject to a temporary closure near the construction site of the new Erlanger Park baseball stadium (future home of the Chattanooga Lookouts). The affected section, which is near the Chestnut Street Trailhead and the old Wheland Foundry area, closed on July 14, 2025, and is expected to reopen in April of 2026. This closure is necessary to facilitate improvements to the trail in conjunction with the stadium's construction, which includes expanding the path's width, upgrading lighting, and improving railroad crossings for a better overall user experience on both game days and daily use.
