Energy Assistance Program

The Office of Family Empowerment is home to the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for Hamilton County, which provides assistance for income-eligible families to help in meeting rising home energy costs.

Assistance may be received only once per program year and is applied directly to the applicant's account with the energy provider.

2025-2026 LIHEAP Reminders

As Hamilton County residents apply for LIHEAP, keep these things in mind:

  • Funds have not been released to our agency yet. We are in constant communication with THDA to ensure that when funds are available, we can disperse them promptly.
  • Applications are approved based on the priority level- the system categorizes the highest ones first.
  • The approval amounts are based on energy burden and income.
  • Once your application has been processed, it will take 8 weeks or longer.
  • All correspondence from your application will come to your valid email. Please check your email for the status of your application.
  • Everyone will receive an email once your application has been submitted stating that your application is under review.
  • Do not reapply if you have already applied.
  • Hit save after each screen.
  • Do not hit withdraw as this will withdraw your application.
  • Only one email per household.
  • If you are locked out, you will have to wait 24 hours.
  • If your password doesn't work or you've forgotten it, click 'Forgot Password' to create a new one. Be sure to write it down.
