Chattanooga Fire Department to put Ladder 21 into Service
What: CFD boosts fire protection in East Brainerd and Hamilton Place
When: Friday, October 31, 2025 at 9 AM
Where: CFD Fire Station 21 (7700 East Brainerd Road)
The Chattanooga Fire Department is expanding response capabilities in East
Brainerd. Ladder 21 is going into service at Fire Station 21 on East
Brainerd Road on Friday, making it a two-company station. This provides more
substantial coverage for neighborhoods and businesses in that part of the
city.
Earlier this month, City Council members approved the Chattanooga Fire
Department’s request to purchase a $1.8 million 107-foot Smeal ladder truck
for Station 21. Fifteen new firefighter positions have also been approved
for that fire station to staff the additional truck. Station 21 is already
home to an engine company, as well as a water tanker truck.
The additional truck and personnel at Station 21 are the result of funding
from the FY26 budget amendment that was passed by City Council in
September. The CFD will use an existing reserve apparatus at Station 21
until a brand new ladder truck arrives.
This is a historic moment for the CFD. Fire Chief Terry Knowles will
provide remarks and explain further at the event on Friday morning. Hope to
see you there. There’s a small parking lot directly in the front of the
fire station that you are welcome to use. Additional parking is available
by turning into the driveway right past the fire station.
