CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Several people were displaced by an apartment fire in Hixson on Friday night. At 9:45 PM on 5/1/25, Green Shift companies were dispatched to the 500 block of Cranberry Way after 911 received multiple reports of flames coming from a second floor apartment. Chattanooga police officers were already on the scene and confirmed that there was an active fire. Officers acted fast to evacuate residents.
Firefighters arrived and found a two-story structure with fire on the exterior and interior walls of a second floor apartment with flames extending into the attic space above.
Fire attack was initiated while the apartments were searched. One parakeet was removed from a unit and was left in the care of the resident who was waiting outside. No one else was found inside. All occupants had safely evacuated the building. By 10:01 PM, crews had knocked down the bulk of the fire and by 10:04, the fire was under control.
After the initial knockdown of the fire and thorough search of the apartments, tarps were used in an effort to salvage residents’ belongings. Fire extension was found in the attic so firefighters continued working to extinguish remaining hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting four impacted residents. S19, L19, E10, E16, S7, E22, B3G and B1G were on the scene, along with an engine from Red Bank.
