An overnight house fire in St. Elmo is being investigated as arson. At 1:06 AM on 8/3/26, Red Shift companies responded to the 4600 block of Florida Avenue for a reported residential fire.

Engine 14 arrived on scene and found heavy fire on the front porch and in the front bedroom of the home. Firefighters initiated fire attack and searched the residence, recovering an unresponsive dog. CFD personnel performed CPR on the scene, but the dog did not survive. Crews knocked down the fire on the front porch and in the front bedroom, then extinguished hot spots.
Fire investigators determined the blaze was intentionally set. It remains under investigation. The residents were not home at the time of the fire. Two adults and a juvenile were displaced. Two dogs in the backyard were unharmed.
