CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (February 13, 2026) – Mayor Tim Kelly has selected Brian Smith as interim administrator of the Department of Parks & Outdoors.
Smith currently serves as the communications director and interim deputy administrator and has worked for the city for the past three years.
He replaces April Furth, who will depart as administrator on February 20. Furth accepted the position of Deputy County Manager of Clark County, Washington.
Furth helped kick off renovations to a new multimodal skate park and dog park, address deferred maintenance across districts and further the city’s commitment to the Park and Outdoors Plan.
“I want to thank April Furth for her service to the residents of Chattanooga,” Kelly said. “Selecting Brian Smith as interim administrator was a no-brainer. He’s done a phenomenal job ushering in Chattanooga as North America’s first National Park City and will continue to oversee the visions set before him.”
