Several Local Grade Crossings Will See Impacts
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (July 29, 2026)
MAJOR TRAFFIC IMPACT EXPECTED
Norfolk Southern Railroad has notified the Chattanooga Division of Transportation of maintenance requirements necessitating the closure of multiple grade crossings next week, with a major traffic impact expected. Due to the complex nature of repairs within the railroad right of way, specific start times for individual closures may be difficult to determine. Estimated dates and locations for these closures and associated detours are provided below. Should any closure exceed the projected timeframe, Norfolk Southern will notify the City and subsequent updates will be issued to the public.
The following locations will experience full closure due to track maintenance:

Monday, August 3rd through Wednesday August 5th

Norfolk Southern and associated contractors intend to manage these repairs sequentially to avoid simultaneous closures. As work concludes at each location, crews will transition to the subsequent site. Motorists are advised to observe all posted detour signage, which will serve as the primary indicator of an active closure.
