Chattanooga firefighters worked a hazmat call at a local business Thursday
morning. At 8:43 AM on 8/14/25, Blue Shift companies were dispatched to
1801 Southern Street at an automotive paint facility for a small hazardous
material spill involving nitric acid. The building was evacuated as a
precaution. CFD Hazmat and Special Operations responded and mitigated the
incident after a small chemical reaction. There were no injuries. Hazmat 1,
The American Red Cross of Tennessee is currently still operating the
shelter at the Brainerd Recreational Center and they are actively
distributing emergency supplies. Anyone affected is welcome to stop by for

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (August 13, 2025) – In response to recent flooding, the
City of Chattanooga's Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division, is
prioritizing brush collection in the most impacted areas. This proactive
measure aims to mitigate further flooding risks by clearing debris that can
obstruct drainage systems. Crews will be working these affected areas
starting today, August 13th through Saturday, August 16th. Brush and bulk
trash collection will resume its normal on demand services Monday, August
18th.
Chattanooga Fire and Chattanooga Police are searching for a missing person
on East Brainerd Road who ran into floodwaters. On Tuesday night on
8/12/25, the 7600 block of East Brainerd Road was blocked off due to
flooding. Yellow tape was across the road and firefighters were trying to
keep multiple individuals from going around barricades for their safety.
One man took off running and mistakenly ran right into a flooded creek.
The Chattanooga Fire Department has opened Brainerd Recreation Center for
parties being evacuated due to flooding.

The Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management’s Emergency Operations
Center can confirm three fatalities following the severe weather that hit
Chattanooga and Hamilton County Tuesday night. Saturated ground caused a
large tree to fall on a car in the 1100 block of South Moore Road in East
Ridge early Wednesday morning, killing two adults and a child. Hamilton

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) quickly located and arrested 64-year-old Guster Harfield in connection with the August 8, 2025 homicide in the 7700 block of Lee Highway.
On August 8, 2025, at 9:10 p.m., CPD officers responded to a report of a
person shot in a motel parking lot. Upon arrival, officers found the
victim, a 43-year-old man, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Third Suspect Charged in Read Avenue Homicide
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –The Chattanooga Police Department has taken the
third and final suspect into custody in connection with the July 20, 2025
homicide of a 15-year-old male.
Eighteen-year-old Eric Collier turned himself in last night and is now in
custody at the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center. The homicide
occurred in the 1700 block of Read Avenue.
