Rain Barrel Installation
Step 1: Prepare the Foundation Ensure the area where the barrel will sit is level and sturdy. The barrel must be elevatedoff the ground to allow for gravity-fed water pressure.
Step 2: Set Up the Inlet Position the barrel under your downspout. Use a screened inlet at the top of the barrel to filter out leaf debris and prevent mosquitoes from entering the water supply.
Step 3: Configure the Spigot Install or ensure your spigot is within 3 inches of the bottom of the barrel. This positioning ensures you can access as much of the stored water as possible.
Step 4: Manage the Overflow Direct the overflow pipe or hose so that it is pointed away from the foundation of your home to prevent localized flooding or structural damage.
Step 5: Optional Attachments Depending on your garden layout, you may choose to attach a hose to the spigot for easier watering.
