Arbor Day 2026: Hosted by Chattanooga Tree Project and the Chattanooga Tree CommissionCHATTANOOGA, TN —  In partnership with the City of Chattanooga Public Works’ Urban Forestry Program, Department of Parks & Outdoors, Department of Community Development, the Arbor Day Foundation, and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry, Chattanooga’s 37th Arbor Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the East Lake Community Center at 3601 Dodds Ave from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This event is generously sponsored by Volkswagen, whose support helps expand community access to trees, green space, and environmental education.

The Arbor Day Foundation’s Canopy Report which revealed that “91% of Americans believe trees help make neighborhoods more livable, yet 56% must drive to their nearest park or green space. The benefits of trees are undeniable, and when we focus on planting in areas with little coverage, we help those who need it most". This celebration reflects that mission by bringing neighbors together to plant trees where canopy is needed most—creating cooler streets, healthier communities, and more resilient neighborhoods for future generations.

Volunteers will participate in planting trees along neighborhood streets and in designated community spaces. Plantings along streets will be limited to volunteers 14 years old and up, while younger children will be invited to participate in supervised plantings and other activities at the East Lake Community Center. For safety, all volunteers under the age of 14 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

The event will begin at 9:00 AM, with planting activities taking place throughout the morning. Local and state leaders, partner organizations, and community members will be present to mark the occasion. Light refreshments will be provided, and the event will conclude at 1:00 PM or when planting is finished.

Residents across Chattanooga are encouraged to participate in this celebration of trees, neighborhoods, and environmental stewardship. Volunteer registration information and event updates will be available at www.chattanoogatreeproject.org. Together we can realize our vision of a Scenic City where every neighborhood is healthy, resilient, and full of opportunity.
