Chattanooga, TN – The city of Chattanooga has announced that the bid
opening for the Hickory Valley Bridge Rehabilitation Project, originally
scheduled for Thursday, April 24, has been officially postponed to Thursday,
May 1, 2025. All bidders must be licensed contractors in compliance with
the State of Tennessee Contractor’s Licensing Act. The Hickory Valley
Bridge project involves substantial structural enhancements to improve
safety, extend service life, and meet current roadway design standards. The
project’s technical scope includes:
Removal of the Existing Concrete Rail: Complete removal of the current
concrete rail system and a portion of the bridge deck across the full
length of the structure.
Deck and Superstructure Improvements: Construction of a new deck
overhang to improve lateral support and drainage. This component will
enhance load distribution and durability.
New End Posts and Structural Footings: Installation of new end posts and
footings at both ends of the bridge to reinforce transition zones and
provide integral support for the updated parapet system.
Parapet and Guardrail Upgrades: Construction of a new parapet along both
edges of the bridge and connection to a new guardrail system designed to
meet modern safety and crash performance standards.
Traffic Maintenance: One lane of traffic will be maintained continuously
throughout the duration of construction. Appropriate traffic control
measures, including signage and temporary signals where necessary, will be
in place to ensure public safety and minimize disruption.
Construction is anticipated to begin following the successful award of
contract in May 2025, with project duration and completion dates to be
determined upon contractor selection.
