Chattanooga Fire Captain George Turley Laid to Rest

Jump to:

On December 20, 2024, the Chattanooga Fire Department said our final farewell to Captain George Turley following his sudden and tragic line of duty death at Fire Station 16. Captain Turley collapsed during a workout at his fire station after suffering a medical emergency while on duty on December 14, 2024. Firefighters from Chattanooga and many other agencies filled St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Hixson for his funeral mass.

“His infectious enthusiasm inspired us all and I can’t think of anyone more dedicated than he was…His absence will be deeply felt,” said Fire Chief Phil Hyman.

A large procession of fire trucks and other emergency vehicles went from the church to Lakewood Memorial Gardens where Captain Turley was laid to rest. George, we will miss you. Rest in peace.
