Chattanooga has a new state-of-the-art fire station to provide enhanced service to the Eastdale community! The Chattanooga Fire Department is excited to celebrate the grand opening of the brand-new Station 15 on Shallowford Road. This $5 million project has been years in the making and it’s exciting to see it finally come to fruition under Mayor Tim Kelly’s administration. Old Station 15 (a 63-year-old structure) was demolished last year and the new fire station was built on the same footprint.
“The opening of this new fire station marks a significant investment in the safety and well-being of the Eastdale community,” said Mayor Tim Kelly. “Station 15 is more than just a building—it represents our commitment to providing our firefighters with the tools they need to protect and serve Chattanooga. This modern, state-of-the-art facility will not only enhance response times but will also serve as a model for future fire stations as our city continues to grow. I’m proud to see this project come to life and grateful to everyone who made it possible.”
The two-bay fire station is a 9,500 square foot building with space to accommodate more personnel and apparatus, allowing for further expansion of the fire department as Chattanooga continues to grow in population. It is several times larger than the old station. It has a kitchen, living area, sleeping rooms, showers, locker rooms, outdoor patio, a hardened shelter and a gym. It also boasts new technologies to provide faster response times and protective measures for emergency responders and their equipment.
“This impressive building stands as a symbol of the dedication and professionalism of our firefighters,” stated Chattanooga Fire Chief Phil Hyman. “It prioritizes functionality and we’re excited for our Station 15 crews to serve our community from this beautiful new home.”
The CFD command staff had been pushing and advocating for a new Station 15 for a number of years and the department received the capital funding for the project thanks to the City Council and Mayor Kelly’s staff. Countless hours were spent bringing this project to life and we appreciate the hard work of everyone involved. The new Fire Station 15 will be a model design for future fire station builds as the CFD meets the city’s increasing service needs.
“The station is designed for maximum efficiency, ensuring rapid response times and optimal workflow for firefighters,” said Ronny Rahn, Principal Architect with MBI Companies. “It features state-of-the-art equipment, energy-efficient systems, and thoughtful spatial planning to support both the physical and mental well-being of its occupants. With durable materials and a modern aesthetic blending with the neighborhood, the station reflects both the resilience and forward-thinking spirit of the Chattanooga community.”
