City Outlines Plan to Address Brush Collection Delays and Improve Service Delivery

Jump to:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Starting Monday, November 3rd, 2025, The City of Chattanooga Department of Public Works is actively implementing a recovery plan to address the delays in brush collection  caused by peak seasonal demand, recent software transitions, and staffing shortages. Since January, brush crew have collected more than 10,500 tons of brush citywide. We
remain committed to timely collections and ensuring all residential service requests are completed.

In an effort to mitigate the delay for requests, brush and bulk trash will automatically be collected by area rather than through individual 311 requests. This approach ensures equitable service; every street will be serviced during its scheduled week, not just those that place requests. The department will divide the city into 4 areas and devote all resources to those areas to sweep each section. The brush and bulk trash collection vehicles will drive the entire area, street-by-street, to collect the
debris during each scheduled week. It’s important to keep your brush, bulk trash, bagged yard waste, and leaves separated; they’re not collected by the same truck.

In order to complete all existing service requests, new requests for service will be collected in the area sweep. Residents may visit our website at www.chattanooga.gov/services/waste-recycling/brush-collection or residents may 3-1-1 or 423-643-6311 to find out their are of collection.
