Forest Avenue kitchen fire sends one to hospital

Jump to:

One person was transported to the hospital following a kitchen fire at a
North Chattanooga home. At 12:35 PM on 1/28/26, Blue Shift companies were
dispatched to the 900 block of Forest Avenue. Station 12 is roughly a block
away and the engine was raising their door to respond when they encountered
the resident of the house in question standing on the apron. The man had
rushed down the street to the fire station for help. Engine 12 arrived on
scene and reported that smoke was coming from the structure. They pulled a
line and found a working kitchen fire, making a quick knockdown. The fire
spread to the attic and responding crews did a great job getting the fire
stopped. Then, they worked to salvage property and contents. The resident
was taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation. The American Red
Cross will be assisting two adults and two children displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire was accidental in nature, connected to unattended
cooking. Engine 12, Ladder 5, Squad 1, Ladder 1, Engine 17, Battalion 1 and
Battalion 3 responded, along with an investigator.

Remember to always “stand by your pan” and never leave your stove
unattended when you are frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling.
