[Chattanooga, March 25th 2026] — Heritage Landing Road is officially open to traffic following an intensive restoration effort.  The project addressed a critical subsurface failure affecting an entrance to the Heritage Landing neighborhood.

The closure was caused by a degraded drainage pipe that allowed soil to wash into the river, creating an underground void that eventually collapsed. A drainage pipe had degraded, allowing soil to wash out into the river and creating the sinkhole.

The team used a "jack-and-bore" method—essentially drilling a new path and installing a fresh casing that saved time, taxpayer money,  while ensuring crew safety. "By choosing the jack-and-bore method, we fixed the root cause of the collapse without the disruption of a traditional 'open-cut' excavation. The road was opened 21 days earlier than our estimated contract end date," said Daylen Brown, Project Manager.

"We are now adding the final safety layers to ensure the road’s safety. The City is currently ordering custom pavement marking logos for the Pedestrian/Bike lanes and will soon install additional delineators to provide a physical buffer between traffic and pedestrians
