A hazmat response is underway in Lookout Valley following a chemical spill. At 12:20 AM on 3/7/26, a driver on Interstate 24 WB called 911 to report that they spotted a substance leaking onto their vehicle from the back of a tractor trailer. The semi got off the interstate at Browns Ferry Road and made its way to Brenntag Mid-South, Inc., a chemical facility on Wauhatchie Pike. The spill impacted parts of the roadway between the Browns Ferry Road exit and Brenntag.
A hazmat response was initiated and an environmental cleanup company was called to the scene to handle the spill. Ladder 1, Engine 1, Squad 1, Hazmat 1, Battalion 1, Special Operations and Squad 20 responded. No injuries have been reported. It’s unclear at this time how much of the chemical leaked out of the truck. The off-ramp of the interstate is shut down for the time being, along with Wauhatchie Pike.
