CHATTANOOGA, TN – June 9, 2025 – The City of Chattanooga announced today that the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) started its quarterly testing and maintenance on the historic Market Street Bridge in downtown Chattanooga on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The essential work will take place from 8:00 a.m. EDT and is anticipated to conclude no later than 8:00 p.m. EDT. This Tuesday, June 10th through Thursday, June 12th, the bridge will adjust traffic lanes to single lane closures for the full bridge inspection. Please watch for signs closing off walkways and directing traffic flow.
This maintenance is crucial for the ongoing safety and operational integrity of the bridge. The City of Chattanooga reminds the public that this work is weather-dependent. In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances that may delay the testing and maintenance, it will be rescheduled for a later date, and the public will be notified.
Drivers can also use the Olgiati Bridge and the Veterans Bridge as alternatives for crossing the Tennessee River.
The City of Chattanooga appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as TDOT conducts this important maintenance to keep our infrastructure safe and reliable.
