Chattanooga firefighters had a fire at a local school under control in
minutes Thursday morning. At 6:27 AM on 9/25/25, Blue and Red Shift
companies were dispatched to Avondale Head Start (2302 Ocoee Street) after
911 received a report from a maintenance worker that fire alarms were going
off and smoke was in the building. At 6:31 AM, units arrived on scene and
nothing was visible from the outside. Crews made entry and located smoke
and fire on the second floor. After a quick attack, the fire was under
control by 6:40 AM and ventilation was started to remove smoke from the
structure. According to investigators, it was accidental fire caused by a
small refrigerator in a large office. There were no injuries. The fire was
contained to the office of origin, but there was smoke and water damage in
the hallway. Engine 4, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Engine 15, Engine 10, Squad 1,
Ladder 1, Battalion 3, Battalion 2 and CFD Investigations Division
responded.
