Fantastic work by Chattanooga firefighters as they quickly and adeptly
mitigated a dangerous situation at a downtown hotel Wednesday night. At
7:41 PM on 7/23/25, Blue Shift companies responded to 100 West 21st Street
on a commercial fire. There was a fire in the basement of the hotel with
people trapped inside the elevator above the fire. The people inside the
elevator reported to 911 that the elevator was quickly filling with smoke.

Today, CPD arrested 18-year-old Mauricio Velasquez, who is charged with
Second Degree Murder. He is currently being held at the Catoosa County Jail
and will be extradited to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center at
a later date.

18-year-old Malik Allen in connection to the homicide that occurred earlier
today, July 20, 2025 in the 1700 block of Read Avenue.
On July 20, 2025, at 12:17 a.m., CPD responded to a report of Shots Fired
in the 1700 block of Read Avenue. Officers arrived on the scene, to more
gunshots and found the victim, a 15-year-old male deceased from a gunshot
wound. Those responding officers were also able to detain multiple people.
Chattanooga firefighters worked through the overnight hours to battle a
damaging house fire in East Lake. At 1:45 AM on 7/17/25, Blue Shift
companies were dispatched to a home in the 3500 block of 6th Avenue. Police
officers arrived on scene initially and began knocking on doors to get
everyone out. No one answered so first arriving firefighters quickly
