CPD Arrests Dejuan Rowland for First Degree Murder

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department located
26-year-old Dejuan Rowland in the 6900 block of Delbert Lane and arrested
him on outstanding arrest warrants for first degree murder.

arrest warrants charging 26-year-old Dejuan Rowland with First Degree
Murder in relation to the homicide that occurred in the 6600 block of Green
Road on December 1.

CPD Investigating Fatal Traffic Crash at 280 Hwy 153

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department is investigating a
fatal traffic crash that occurred on December 13, 2024 at 6:23 a.m. at 280
Hwy 153.

It is with the heaviest hearts that the Chattanooga Fire Department announces the line-of-duty death of the most senior member of our department, Captain George Turley (Engine 16 Blue Shift). Captain Turley, 58, served 31 years in the CFD and to say that he was well-liked and respected by his fellow firefighters is an understatement. He was on duty Saturday (12/14/24) at Station 16 on Lupton Drive (Lupton City) and doing his daily workout in the gym in the apparatus bay when he suffered a medical emergency. Members of his crew found him unresponsive and initiated CPR.

It was a busy Sunday for Chattanooga firefighters. At 12:06 PM on 12/15/24, Green Shift companies were dispatched to the 2200 block of Elmendorf Street for a residential fire in a duplex. On arrival, smoke was coming from the eaves of the multi-family dwelling. The fire was extinguished quickly and contained to one bedroom. Investigators learned that a nine-year-old child was playing with a candle, causing burns to his leg and foot. He was transported to the hospital and is doing ok. The American Red Cross will be assisting the impacted residents.

Car fire spreads into Chattanooga business leaving one person with burns: At 2:24 AM on 12/15/24, the Chattanooga Fire Department was dispatched to a car fire at 830 Eastgate Loop. Upon arrival on scene, Ladder 13’s crew located a fully engulfed car located under the drive-thru awning of the EPB payment building. L13 immediately upgraded the call to a commercial fire as flames were spreading into the structure. A full response was dispatched and arrived on scene to assist with extinguishing the fire.

Chattanooga, Tenn. (December 13, 2024) - We share with a heavy heart and deep sorrow for our entire community having learned of the passing of district 6 Councilwoman, Dr. Carol Berz who died unexpectedly of natural causes Wednesday. 

We have an update on the apartment fire on Frazier Avenue that resulted in seven rescues. The fire appears to be accidental and electrical in nature, according to CFD investigators. It’s believed to have been started by an electric vehicle in the parking garage. This is our first large-scale incident related to an electric vehicle. Two other vehicles next to the EV burned and most of the cars in the garage had heat damage. That’s in addition to the smoke damage in the businesses and apartments above the parking garage.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department is partnering with
the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) for the Booze It and Lose It
campaign to increase impaired-driving enforcement from December 13, 2024,
to January 1, 2025. The THSO’s statewide Booze It and Lose It campaign is
part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Drive Sober or
Get Pulled Over mobilization to reduce impaired-driving crashes nationwide
during the holiday season.
