The Chattanooga Department of Public Works will begin the milling and paving process for Wilcox Blvd between Shallowford Road and Greenwood Road starting Monday, January 6th. This project will be multi-phase and will require the following estimated timeline:
Phase 1: Milling Wilcox Blvd between Shallowford Road and Tunnel Blvd 1/6-1/10
Phase 2: Milling Wilcox Blvd between Tunnel Blvd and Greenwood Road 1/13-1/17
An East Chattanooga home sustained damage when the residential structure was struck by a vehicle Saturday night. At 6:33 PM on 1/4/25, Green Shift companies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Waterhaven Drive on initial reports of an explosion. CPD, CFD and Hamilton County EMS responded and found that a car hit a house, going through a portion of a front bedroom and into the garage. The elderly driver of the vehicle was entrapped and had to be cut out of the car by firefighters. He was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Residents at a Brainerd home are safe after a Friday afternoon fire. At 2:31 PM on 1/3/25, Red Shift companies responded to a home in the 100 block of S Moore Road after 911 received reports of smoke in the structure coming from the dryer. The occupants evacuated after calling 911. Squad 13 made an aggressive attack on the fire in the laundry area, getting it under control. Other companies assisted in firefighting operations. There were no injuries. Squad 13, Ladder 13, Engine 15, Ladder 5, Engine 5, Squad 1, Battalion 1 and Battalion 2 responded.

CPD Investigates Homicide at Glenwood Parkway
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. * –* The Chattanooga Police Department is
investigating a homicide that occurred at an abandoned multi-unit complex
in the 2600 block of Glenwood Parkway.
A North Chattanooga family lost everything Thursday morning as flames gutted their home, but thankfully, the occupants escaped unscathed. At 7:24 AM on 1/2/25, Green Shift companies responded to the 300 block of Druid Lane after 911 received multiple reports of a residential structure fire from neighbors. The resident said her dog’s barking woke her up and alerted her to the fire. She was able to get her child and as they were rushing to the front door, they heard neighbors knocking in an effort to help them.
A Chattanooga family is safe after escaping their burning Alton Park home. At 10:37 PM on 1/1/25, Blue Shift companies responded to the 5200 block of Usher Drive on reports of a residential structure fire. Two adult females and two children had safely exited the house as flames spread. They suffered minor smoke inhalation and were assessed by HCEMS on the scene, but were not transported. Engine 14 arrived on scene to a working fire with flames showing through the front door and coming out of the back door. Firefighters made a direct attack with a quick knockdown.
With new technology, new trucks and new facilities, the Chattanooga Fire Department is ready for the new year. In 2024, the CFD responded to more than 23,000 calls, including 400+ structure fires, over 7,800 EMS calls, and more than 1,861 motor vehicle crashes. There were also more than 1560 “Assist a Citizen” calls. In total, firefighters saved $404,779,271 in property from fire damage.
A family’s home on the east side of Chattanooga was damaged by an apparent electrical fire Monday afternoon. At 2:26 PM on 12/30/24, Blue Shift companies responded to reports of a residential structure fire in the 1700 block of Monterey Drive. Two teenagers were inside their house when a neighbor notified them that smoke was coming from the residence. They evacuated and called 911. Responding units, however, received reports about the possibility that the two girls were still trapped inside. Firefighters made entry and conducted a search, but no one was found.

On December 20, 2024, the Chattanooga Fire Department said our final farewell to Captain George Turley following his sudden and tragic line of duty death at Fire Station 16. Captain Turley collapsed during a workout at his fire station after suffering a medical emergency while on duty on December 14, 2024. Firefighters from Chattanooga and many other agencies filled St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Hixson for his funeral mass.
“His infectious enthusiasm inspired us all and I can’t think of anyone more dedicated than he was…His absence will be deeply felt,” said Fire Chief Phil Hyman.
