CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department is partnering with
the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) for the Booze It and Lose It
campaign to increase impaired-driving enforcement from December 13, 2024,
to January 1, 2025. The THSO’s statewide Booze It and Lose It campaign is
part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Drive Sober or
Get Pulled Over mobilization to reduce impaired-driving crashes nationwide
during the holiday season.

Firefighters battled a two-alarm commercial fire in Downtown Chattanooga for several hours Tuesday morning, working to keep flames from spreading to other nearby buildings. Red Shift companies were dispatched to Huff Place off E 23rd Street at 1:10 AM on 12/10/24 after 911 received reports about a burning building. Engine 5 arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke billowing out of a grocery store. They launched an interior attack and primary search and no one was found inside. Additional crews joined in the offensive operation, but the fire progressed very quickly.

State, local and federal agencies worked to tackle a brush fire on the side of Lookout Mountain. At 6:46 AM on 12/7/24, Chattanooga Fire companies were dispatched to the 700 block of S Scenic Highway after 911 received several calls about a fire in the woods. Access to the area that’s been burning has been challenging for firefighters so brush trucks and UTVs were used by emergency personnel. The US Forest Service, Tennessee Forestry, CFD, Lookout Mountain FD, CPD and HCEMS have all been on the call throughout the day.

The cause of an overnight house fire is under investigation in Chattanooga. At 1:19 AM on 12/7/24, Green Shift companies were dispatched to a home in the 2000 block of N Concord Road. Firefighters found fire in the back corner of the residence and launched a swift attack. They removed one party from the structure and the patient was transported to the hospital. Crews continued working to extinguish the fire.

Chattanooga Fire worked a fire at a vacant, condemned residential structure early Monday morning. Downtown companies were dispatched to the 2100 block of South Holly Street off E 23rd Street at 6:29 AM on 12/2/24 after 911 received reports of smoke and flames coming from the structure. Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:05 AM. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.

Multiple people were rescued from their apartment building in Chattanooga’s North Shore overnight. At 1:32 AM on 11/22/24, Red Shift companies were dispatched to 417 Frazier Avenue. Engine 12 saw smoke as they headed to the scene and went to the back of the structure where heavy smoke and flames were coming from the parking garage. Several vehicles were on fire and the smoke from the blaze was filling the entire building. As they pulled handlines, forced entry into the garage and started fire attack, other responding fire companies were in search and rescue mode.

Chattanooga, Tenn. (November 20, 2024) - The City of Chattanooga has installed solar panels on the roof of the Development Resource Center (DRC). The solar panels are estimated to save 25% in energy bills for the DRC, or $26,000-$28,000 every year. After 30 years the total savings will be $810,000. After federal tax credits are incorporated, the cost to the city for the solar panels will be $505,379 – resulting in a significant net savings over time.

Chattanooga, Tenn. (November 19, 2024) - During today’s City Council strategic planning meeting, the Chattanooga–Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency unveiled a proposed new sign ordinance for the City of Chattanooga.

A sign ordinance is a set of regulations and rules established by local government to manage the placement, size, design, and maintenance of signs in the community. The proposed changes would be the first significant update to Chattanooga’s sign ordinance since the 1980s.
