CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is investigating a single-vehicle crash in which the driver sustained critical injuries and died days later.
On June 13, 2026 at 6:49 p.m., CPD's DUI/Traffic Unit responded to a serious injury crash and subsequent vehicle fire in the 2900 block of McCallie Ave. The preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound towards the McCallie Tunnel when the driver lost control. The vehicle left the roadway, struck the opening wall of the McCallie tunnel, and caught fire. Witnesses to the crash acted quickly and moved the driver away from the vehicle. Hamilton County EMS transported him to a local hospital with critical injuries.
On June 18, 2026 at 7:30 p.m., the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office notified CPD that the driver, 28-year-old Marki Bonner, died.
