A woman was left with burns late Friday night after an apparent mishap while smoking in bed while on oxygen. At 11 PM on 7/12/24, CFD Blue Shift companies responded to an automatic alarm at 500 W Martin Luther Blvd (Jaycee Towers) and saw smoke coming from a resident’s apartment. Firefighters found the victim on the floor and fire on her bed. They rescued the woman and she was transported to the hospital by Hamilton County EMS with burns on her stomach and leg. The fire was extinguished with water cans.

Senior Firefighter Patrick Mansfield and Firefighter Cameron McCullough (Quint 14 Blue Shift) received the Medal of Heroism for their actions on a recent fire scene that resulted in two lives being saved. Firefighter Javier Ortiz (Engine 9 Blue Shift) received a life-saving medal for assisting in the rescue operation. On 6/24/24, FFS Mansfield and FF McCullough entered a burning Alton Park home on Fagan Street and rescued two victims. Later they were joined by FF Ortiz.

An anhydrous ammonia spill at Mount Vernon Mills late Wednesday night forced evacuations in Trion, Georgia. Around 10 PM on 6/26/24, agencies responded to Fourth Street where a tanker was leaking. Trion Fire Department requested assistance on the scene to help contain the leak. Several streets were shutdown and blocked. The ammonia leak prompted an evacuation of homes adjacent to the mill. The town opened up the recreation center to anyone displaced by the leaking ammonia during the evacuation.

Two people were sent to the hospital Monday morning after being pulled by Chattanooga firefighters from their burning Alton Park home. At 7:09 AM on 6/24/24, Blue Shift companies were called to a duplex in the 4100 block of Fagan Street on reports of a house fire with entrapment. Engine 14 saw smoke upon arrival and immediately went into rescue mode. Engine 9 backed them up and together, the crews rescued a man and a woman from the structure. Both were transported to the hospital with serious injuries related to toxic smoke inhalation.

Quick stop by Blue Shift on Highland Park residential fire: At 9:46 PM on 6/24/24, CFD responded to a home in the 1500 block of E 14th Street and found the back of the structure engulfed in flames. A coordinated fire attack from different sides and a search of the residence happened simultaneously. Firefighters had the flames knocked down fast and ventilated the house before moving into overhaul. No one was home at the time of the fire. Cause will be under investigation.

Chattanooga Fire and other public safety agencies assisted the Chattanooga Police Department with a large emergency response to an incident on Hamilton Place Boulevard Monday afternoon. At 2:04 PM on 6/24/24, Hamilton County 911 started receiving reports of a shooting occurring in an office building in the 2000 block. According to CPD officials, there was a shooter inside the building “who was attempting to execute a plan which failed.” He shot himself and is now deceased. No other people were shot or injured.

The new PILOT rules allow the city to incentivize individual affordable housing units, offer greater incentives for units with lower rents, and better reflect the variation in market rents across different areas of the city.

At 5:45 PM on 6/8/24, Ladder 5 Blue Shift responded to 1908 Bailey Avenue on a vehicle fire. On the scene, they found a fully involved car fire. As firefighters were working to extinguish the fire, there were several rounds of explosions. Two firefighters were in very close proximity when it exploded, but thankfully, they were not seriously injured. One of those firefighters, a captain, was checked out for head and ear pain following the incident. He sustained a mild concussion.
