CHATTANOOGA, TN (August 26, 2025) - Mayor Tim Kelly released the following
statement after the City Council took its first vote on the 1.93 compromise
property tax rate and supplemental budget.

CHATTANOOGA, TN — The City of Chattanooga is pleased to announce the
successful completion of significant roadway improvements on Harrison Pike,
specifically the section between Addison Road and the railroad tracks. This
project addressed critical infrastructure needs and enhanced safety and
traffic flow for residents and commuters.

Lightning is to blame for a two-alarm fire that destroyed a large Hixson
home Wednesday afternoon as storms moved through the area. At 4:19 PM on
8/20/25, Red Shift companies were dispatched to a reported residential
structure fire in the 1600 block of Kamin Road off Middle Valley Road. Fire
was in the attic of the home and smoke was visible on arrival. Firefighters
went in the front to attack flames, but the roof started sagging.
They attacked the fire from another angle and another portion of the roof

CHATTANOOGA, TN (August 21, 2025) - A public hearing will be held on
Tuesday, August 26, on Councilmember Chip Henderson’s 1.69 property tax
rate proposal before Council takes its first vote on setting a new tax
rate. Henderson has declined to discuss the impacts of the cuts to city
services in his proposal, but the Kelly Administration feels it’s important
for Chattanoogans to know what’s at stake before City Council votes.

CHATTANOOGA, TN (August 18, 2025) – Invest Chattanooga, in partnership with
the City of Chattanooga, today released a Request for Information (RFI
<https://www.investchattanooga.org/workwithus>) inviting developers,
property owners, and prospective purchasers to share potential mixed-income
multifamily opportunities — whether new construction or acquisitions — that
include long-term affordable housing commitments.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is
investigating a shooting that left a 29-year-old man deceased.

On August 17, 2025, at 4:02 a.m., CPD officers responded to a report of a
person shot in the 3200 block of Brainerd Road. When officers arrived, they
located a 29-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Hamilton County EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he was
pronounced deceased. CPD’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and
the Crime Scene Unit processed the scene.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be conducting
inspections, maintenance, and cleaning operations in several
Chattanooga-area tunnels next week. These operations require overnight
closures of the affected tunnels. A list of the tunnels, along with their
respective closure dates and times, is provided below. Detour routes will
be clearly indicated.
