Red Shift companies were on the scene of a fire at WestRock Recycling for several hours on Friday. At 4:27 PM on 2/16/24, CFD personnel responded to 310 E 28th Street and found large stacks of boxes burning outside at the recycling facility. Firefighters got the fire under control and then remained on scene working to fully extinguish the bundles of cardboard and protect exposures. Our mutual aid partners provided coverage at our fire halls during the extended firefighting operation. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Several apartments were damaged in an overnight fire in Hixson. At 12:56 AM on 2/15/24, CFD Red Shift personnel responded to a structure fire in the 5200 block of Hickory Woods Lane. Firefighters could see smoke in the distance as they headed to the scene and they found heavy fire coming from an apartment on the second floor when they arrived. A second alarm was called due to reports of possible entrapment, but crews learned that all occupants were out of the apartment building. Fire companies attacked the fire on the second floor while also searching the burning structure.

Squad 19, Squad 1, and Engine 22 Green Shift worked an extrication Sunday afternoon (2/11/24). Firefighters removed someone trapped in the wreckage so the patient could be transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. It happened on Highway 27 at Old Dayton Pike near the overpass. BC3 Bowman captured photos from the scene. It appeared that the vehicle went airborne, falling from 27 onto Old Dayton Pike.

A group of Chattanooga firefighters had the chance to take part in some highly specialized rope training this week at the Academy at Vertical Consult in Ringgold, GA. With rope access work being performed as much as it is in our area, CFD sent eight members to a five-day SPRAT class. They went through the exact SPRAT Level 1 training that is given to rope access workers. It gives rope rescue technicians an idea and understanding the rope systems built how and why they are used and in case an emergency arises to a worker on ropes it helps in the rescue.

Blue Shift companies extinguished a fire in a trash compactor at the Amazon Fulfillment Center (7202 Discovery Drive) early Friday morning. Crews pulled a dumpster from the building to gain access to the contents (boxes). The call came in at 1:19 AM on 2/9/24. Ladder 7, Squad 7, Quint 6, Engine 15, Quint 8, Quint 21, and Battalion 2 responded. There were no injuries.
