CHATTANOOGA, TN – June 9, 2025 – The City of Chattanooga announced today that the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) started its quarterly testing and maintenance on the historic Market Street Bridge in downtown Chattanooga on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The essential work will take place from 8:00 a.m. EDT and is anticipated to conclude no later than 8:00 p.m. EDT.  This Tuesday, June 10th through Thursday, June 12th, the bridge will adjust traffic lanes to single lane closures for the full bridge inspection.

These essential roadwork projects will involve significant detours and impact local traffic flow, particularly immediately following the Juneteenth holiday.

Motorists are urged to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time during these closures, which are weather permitting.

I-24 Westbound Closure: June 20-23, 2025

On June 6, 2025 at approximately 2:00 p.m., Chattanooga Police
responded to a two-vehicle crash resulting in a fatality in the 4700 block of Highway 58.

The Chattanooga Police Department Traffic Unit conducted the investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates that a Kia Sorento was traveling south in the 4700 block of Highway 58 when it crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a GMC 2500HD that was traveling northbound.

2nd through July 4th, 2025, for Nightfall. Closure times are noted:

A man was found deceased at the Motel 6 on Lee Highway Sunday after a fire it appears he intentionally set inside his hotel room. At 11:25 AM on Sunday (6/8/25), Blue Shift companies responded to a fire at the motel, located at 7707 Lee Highway, after witnesses saw smoke coming from the window of the man’s room. Once firefighters were on the scene, there was no smoke showing. The fire had snuffed itself out because of insufficient oxygen. The man had barricaded himself in his room so fire crews were asked to stage nearby as Chattanooga Police made entry.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn<https://www.google.com/maps/search/4700+block+Highway+58+CHATTANOOGA,+Tenn?entry=gmail&source=g>. – On June 8, 2025 at 4:40 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a
two-vehicle crash involving two motorcycles in the 100 block of Honest
Street. The collision resulted in the fatality of a 52-year-old man.

S Holtzclaw Ave between E 12th Street and E 14th Street is currently closed
due to a significant water main break. Tennessee American Water crews and
the Chattanooga Department of Public Works are on site and working to
conduct repairs.

An evaluation of the roadway has revealed undermining of the pavement
across its entire width. As a result, S Holtzclaw Ave will remain closed to
all traffic through Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
