CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.  – On July 26, 2026 just before 10:00 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a pedestrian struck call in the 5900 block of Highway 58. Upon arrival, officers found a 60-year-old man deceased.

CPD's Traffic/DUI Unit responded to conduct the crash investigation. The preliminary investigation determined Vehicle #1 (Acura) was traveling south

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred on July 25, 2026 at approximately 6:15 p.m. in the 1100 block of Arlington Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Hamilton County EMS transported him to a local hospital. Meanwhile, a 29-year-old male with a gunshot wound arrived at a hospital via personal vehicle. Both men's injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

Brush and bulk trash collections are currently running approximately three days behind schedule. Our crews are working extended hours to safely complete collections as quickly as possible while maintaining our commitment to serving every neighborhood.

Please note that each street will be serviced only once during this collection cycle. Because brush and bulk trash are collected by separate trucks, you may see one truck collect your brush before the other arrives to collect your bulk trash.

EMERGENCY CLOSURE UPDATE

6683 Sandswitch Road 

Starting at 4 PM today and continuing through the weekend, a single lane of Sandswitch Road will reopen between Brookmont Lane and Celestial Lane. To coordinate travel, temporary traffic lights (automatic flagging) will alternate directions every 2–3 minutes, allowing northbound and southboundtraffic to take turns utilizing the available lane.

E 32nd Street at 8th Avenue

To enhance safety and as a result of a traffic study, the Department of Public Works Transportation Division will convert the intersection of E 32nd Street at 8th Avenue into an all-way stop effective noon on Wednesday, July 29th. Traffic entering the intersection should be cautious as drivers adapt to the new pattern.

6683 Sandswitch Road  

During routine sewer repairs, a void was discovered underneath Sandswitch Road between Brookmont Lane and Celestial Lane, requiring a full closure of
all vehicle traffic.

Repairs are currently underway and are expected to last until Tuesday, July 28th. An additional announcement will be made once the road reopens.

Traffic south of Brookmont Lane will need to access Sandswitch Road via Gadd Road.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) arrested a second suspect in connection to a homicide at a Manor Road residence that occurred on July 16, 2026.

Leah Duncan (DOB: 10-22-1996) is charged with felony murder, especially aggravated robbery, and tampering with evidence. Duncan is in custody at
the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
