Erlanger and the Chattanooga Fire Department are working together to prevent burn injuries in our community during National Burn Awareness Week (February 2-8, 2025). National Burn Awareness Week, an initiative of the American Burn Association, is a collaboration of burn, fire and life safety educators to make the public aware of the frequency, devastation and causes of burn injuries. It also aims to provide measures to prevent these injuries and how to best care for those that are injured.
We've gotten a few questions about a public notice sign that was put up near the Fireman's Fountain. Here's an update: The public notice sign is there because the City of Chattanooga is donating the property that the fountain sits on to Hamilton County. This does not mark a significant change, as the county is already maintaining the fountain. The fountain is also in need of some substantial repairs. So in the near future, it will be temporarily removed so that it can be repaired and then put back in place to be enjoyed for years to come.
Several pets were saved from a duplex fire overnight. At 1:07 AM on 1/29/25, Blue Shift companies were dispatched to the 1900 block of Rawlings Street on reports of a residential structure fire. The occupants weren’t home at the time, but their neighbors on the other side of the duplex called 911 when they smelled smoke and heard popping noises. Firefighters responded and forced entry, quickly extinguishing fire in a back bedroom. Crews did an outstanding job keeping the fire contained to the room of origin. They removed several cats and Guinea pigs.
Training, ingenuity and experience came into play Sunday night as Chattanooga firefighters conducted a complex extrication in Hixson. At 5:28 PM, Blue Shift companies responded to a single-car motor vehicle accident with entrapment in the 6600 block of Sandswitch Road. According to officials on the scene, it appeared that someone cut a large tree and it fell on a car that was traveling down the road at that exact moment, crushing the car and trapping the driver in her mangled vehicle.
North Chattanooga house fire and pet rescues: On 2/25/25 at 5:45 PM, Green Shift companies responded to the 300 block of Pine Ridge Road in District 12. A fire started in the kitchen of a home and was quickly extinguished by first arriving crews. While other units on scene performed search and ventilation, multiple dogs were rescued from the house. Four dogs in total were rescued. Three were rehabilitated with oxygen therapy on scene, but one perished. No other injuries occurred. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
